Screen Text Extractor processes text locally and does not sell, share, or track user data.
Introduction
Screen Text Extractor ('we', 'us', 'our', or 'the Extension') is committed to protecting your privacy. We believe that your private data should remain private. This Privacy Policy details our approach to information security and transparency.
Information We Collect
We do not collect personal information (such as your name, email, IP address), browsing history, cookies, or keyboard inputs. The only data processed is the selected screen screenshot and the resulting extracted text.
How Data Is Used
All OCR (Optical Character Recognition) processing happens locally in your browser using Tesseract.js. Your screen captures and extracted text are NEVER transmitted to external cloud servers. Text is copied directly to your system clipboard when requested.
Local Storage
Extraction history is cached only in your browser's local storage. This enables features like pinning and searching past extractions entirely offline. No data is synced to external servers or shared across different devices.
User Control
You have complete control over your data. You can clear your entire extraction history instantly using the 'Clear' button in the extension. Uninstalling the extension automatically deletes all locally cached data from your device.
Permissions Used
Required to capture the visible screen content for text selection.
Required to store your extraction history, settings, and pinned items locally.
Required to inject the overlay selection screen into active webpages.
